When Did It Click

It clicked when I was asked to coach a 10 year old youth baseball team. Considering I had not played organized baseball until I was 11 years old, I thought this was going to be about fun and playing time. I knew I was wrong when, on the first day, I was handed a 50 page scouting report from a dad of one of the players on the team. The report included two pages for each player on the team and the statistics from the previous season. I knew then that my coaching gig was going to be bigger than providing instructional tips and pure fun…pulling from my experience playing college baseball and working in the Front Offices of Major League Baseball Teams . It would include and entail changing a culture and mindset of a must-win environment to a bunch of eager and eyes wide open 10 year olds. This is when the Effort over Results became a mantra.

Thriller” By “Michael Jackson Since I was a pitcher this is what I would be playing during my jog in from the bullpen to the pitcher’s mound. Trust me, everytime I took the mound it was bound to be a thriller for either myself or the batter.

Who Would You Invite To Be A Guest

My father, Thomas Elwood. College Basketball player who could dunk the ball, but decided to withhold those genes from me when I was born.

Da, as my brother and I call him, was an incredible mentor for both of us during our athletic journey.  He truly taught me about the life lessons of sports. He also taught me (along with my mother as well) that he would do anything to attend one of my games. Anything. And both of my parents were always there for me and at almost every single game I ever played.
